We are pleased to highlight the accomplishments of Mr. Lau Kat Tik, a third-year PhD student in the MPhil-PhD Programme in Biomedical Sciences, who was awarded the Best Oral Presentation Award (SYIS) at the TERMIS-AP 2025 conference, held in Wuhan from 16 – 19 October 2025.
His presentation, titled “Using Tendon-like Topography to Reduce TGF-β1 Associated Fibrosis,” introduced an innovative approach that utilizes native-mimicking topographical cues to mitigate scar-related myofibroblast phenotypes while promoting tenogenic differentiation. This pioneering research has the potential to contribute significantly to the design of materials aimed at enhancing regenerative healing in tendon injuries and beyond.
Mr. Lau’s work is carried out under the guidance of Prof. Michelle Wang, whose mentorship has played a vital role in this achievement.
The Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society-Asia-Pacific (TERMIS-AP) conference is an esteemed gathering for professionals in biomaterials, stem cells, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. With over 2,000 participants globally, the conference offers a forum for discussing innovative research, industrial applications, regulatory considerations, clinical practices, and collaborative opportunities.
