I was part of the second cohort of students admitted to the BSc in Biomedical Sciences, drawn to SBS for its flexibility in entering the business stream upon graduation. The unique curriculum empowers young scientists-in-training to explore various opportunities and acquire essential skills. In today’s society, multidisciplinary and well-oriented skill sets are crucial for personal development and success. SBS provides dynamic and sophisticated training and education in the three concentration areas, helping students identify their interests and strengths before entering the job market.
I graduated with a concentration in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship, which led to a Master of Philosophy in Surgery and my current study of Doctor of Philosophy in Management. The freedom in career selection aligns with the educational outcomes set by SBS. In addition to its broad-based education, SBS has an excellent mentoring system that supports students academically and personally. The professors, lecturers, and staff genuinely care about students deep from their heart, providing unwavering assistance during challenges. Furthermore, SBS is generous with financial support, offering scholarships for scientific breakthroughs, internships, and research activities.
The opportunities for diverse academic activities, internships, and overseas exchanges are substantial, thanks to collaborations built by SBS faculty over the years. I travelled to Chongqing, Boston, and Southampton for academic engagements during my undergraduate studies and gained industry exposure working in a biotechnology company. Each experience provided insights into regional research culture and helped me understand my pursuits comprehensively.
SBS provides more than just teaching; it emphasizes caring, educating, and developing future leaders in biomedicine for the 21st century. Along this journey, we experience tears, sweat and ache, but these are the signs that we are climbing uphill, we are breaking our limits, we are growing stronger. I encourage you to keep climbing with perseverance and determination. Remember to seek support if you feel overwhelmed; the faculty is here to help, as am I. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. In SBS, we are always one big family.
