SBS Research Day 2025 & Joint Symposium on “Advances in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology: From Embryogenesis to Regeneration”

The SBS Research Day 2025 & Joint Symposium on “Advances in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology: From Embryogenesis to Regeneration” hosted by CUHK School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) and the Hong Kong Society for Developmental Biology (HKSDB) took place successfully on 16 June 2025 at G/F, Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building.
Welcome cum Back-to School Party for Undergraduate Biomedical Sciences Students (2025/26)

To celebrate the official start of the new academic year, the BSc Programme Team of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) hosted its annual Welcome cum Back-to-School Party for undergraduate Biomedical Sciences students on 1 September 2025.
2025 Hong Kong Symposium on Cell and Gene Therapy

The School of Biomedical Sciences of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (SBS), the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Health (CRMH), and the Institute for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (iTERM) co-organized the 2025 Hong Kong Symposium on Cell and Gene Therapy: Bridging Research and Therapeutic Breakthroughs on 9-10 June 2025 at Hong Kong Science Park.
2026-27 PhD Student Recruitment Summer Workshop

With the goal of inspiring prospective students to pursue PhD studies at the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), while fostering new connections and exploring future research opportunities, the 2026–27 PhD Student Recruitment Summer Workshop took place from 2 to 5 July 2025. A total of 46 candidates were selected from renowned institutions to join the Workshop.
Participation in the Faculty Strategic Workshop 2025, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK

Prof. Barbara P. Chan, Professor, Prof. Vincent C.K. Cheung, Associate Professor and Prof. Alfred S.L. Cheng, Professor of the School of Biomedical Sciences, were invited to serve as speaker and moderator, respectively, at the Faculty Strategic Workshop 2025 organised by the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK.
“Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme Information Day

Following the success of the Information Days held in 2023 and 2024, the third “Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme Information Day was successfully held on 17 May 2025.
The Orientation cum the Staff-Student Consultative Meeting for the Master of Science Programme in Genomics and Bioinformatics (2025/26)

To welcome new and current postgraduate students, the Orientation Lunch cum the Staff-Student Consultative Meeting was hosted by the Master of Science Programme in Genomics and Bioinformatics on 6 September 2025 (Saturday) in Function Room 4 in the Chung Chi College Staff Club.

Three of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) members have recently been given the annual Teachers of the Year Awards 2025 by the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). They included:
SBS students receiving awards at the Teachers’ and Students’ Awards Presentation Ceremony 2025

Twenty-six students and graduates of the BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme and MPhil-PhD in Biomedical Sciences Programme were presented different scholarships and awards at the Teachers’ and Students’ Awards Presentation Ceremony 2025 held by the Faculty of Medicine at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK on 21 June 2025. Prof. Hovy H.W. Wong wins IBRO Rising Stars Award

Prof. Hovy H.W. Wong, Assistant Professor of the School has won the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Rising Stars Award 2025.
Retirement of staff members

Prof. Simon C.L. Au, Prof. Hector S.O. Chan and Prof. Alisa S.W. Shum officially retired from the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) on 1 August 2025. Following the retirements, Prof. Au, Prof. Chan and Prof. Shum were reappointed as Adjunct Associate Professor, Professor (Teaching) and Associate Professor (Teaching) respectively.

Participation of the Advanced Symposium on Mechanisms and Animal Models of Human Diseases organised by the Kunming Institute of Zoology

The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) members, including Prof. Andrew M. Chan, Prof. Chan Wai Yee, Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Prof. Zhao Hui, Prof. Stephen Dalton, Prof. Jacque P.K. Ip, Prof. Linda Gu Shen and Prof. Wang Wuming, participated in the Advanced Symposium on Mechanisms and Animal Models of Human Diseases, organized by the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 5 to 7 September 2025, in Kunming, China.

Tang Ning Anne, B.Sc. Graduate in Biomedical Sciences

After graduating with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, I completed an MRes in Biomedical Research at Imperial College London, where I undertook industry-collaborative projects with AstraZeneca (MSC–HSC crosstalk in a bone-marrow microphysiological system) and MSD (psychosocial impact of antipsychotic-associated weight gain).
