Ash Scattering Ceremony of Silent Teachers Body Donation Programme
13 Dec 2025
Details:

The School of Biomedical Sciences coordinates the “Silent Teachers Body Donation Programme” in support of medical education. Each year, the School holds two ash scattering ceremonies to express our profound gratitude to the Silent Teachers for their selfless contributions to advancing medical teaching and training.

On 13 December 2025, the Programme held an ash scattering ceremony at the Junk Bay Chinese Permanent Cemetery to honour 21 Silent Teachers, expressing deep gratitude and respect for their selfless contributions. We were joined by ten Year 3 medical students and the families of the donors, who gathered together to mark this meaningful occasion.

Even after life’s final chapter, these Silent Teachers chose to continue teaching through their bodies. Their gifts support medical education and nurture future healthcare professionals, instilling in them a profound respect for life and humanity.

The ceremony symbolised a return to nature and the continuation of a legacy. While the physical body rests with the earth, the spirit of our Silent Teachers lives on through the students they have guided and the patients who will ultimately benefit from their generosity.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all donors and their families. Your courage, compassion and generosity form an enduring foundation for medical education and care.
