“Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme Information Day
17 May 2025
Details:

Following the success of the Information Days held in 2023 and 2024, the third “Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme Information Day was successfully held on 17 May 2025. Nearly 200 people registered for the event, with an attendance rate of approximately 80%. Participants were members of the general public from diverse backgrounds, including retirees and others.
The event received an enthusiastic response and was made possible through the generous support of various end-of-life and community service organizations, such as Forget Thee Not, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals’ Endless Care Services, and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department’s Green Burial Team. We are deeply grateful to all guest speakers for sharing their expertise and insights on end-of-life planning. These included Dr. Chelsea Sun and her students from the CUHK Centre for Bioethics, CUHK alumnus and community physician Dr. Tam Yat Hung and bereaved families from Good Grief HK, whose heartfelt stories inspired many attendees.
Also featured were the repeatedly held “Reading Last Letters” workshops and an interactive art installation titled “The Last Three Calls of Life.” These initiatives aimed to facilitate public reflection and healing around grief and bereavement.
The programme also included guided tours of the Dissecting Laboratory at the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building. Registered attendees gained a deeper understanding of human anatomy and how “Silent Teachers” contribute to anatomy training and medical education. The tours were coordinated by Programme Director Dr. Sam H.K. Poon and led by Dr. Wong Wai Kai.
The “Silent Teacher” Body Donation Programme sincerely thanks all participants and exhibitors for their contributions and dedication, which made this event a resounding success.
