On 27 June 2025, Prof. Carol M. Tong, Assistant Professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), participated in an engaging event titled “Meeting with CUHK Professors”, organized by the CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School.

Five Form 4 students from the CUHKFAA Chan Chun Ha Secondary School, accompanied by their teacher Mr. Wong Kin Ming, visited the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building. This visit provided an exceptional opportunity for students to interact with excellent researchers and immerse themselves in the world of biomedical research. Prof. Tong shared her exciting journey as an early-career scientist and her innovative research on liver cancer, sparking the students’ curiosity and interest in scientific research.

After her presentation, the students eagerly engaged with Prof. Tong and her dedicated lab members — Mr. Wong Hin Kwan (BMSC graduate), Mr. Ng Long Hin (Year 2 BMSC student), and Miss Liew Hui Shuen (Year 1 BMSC student). Prof. Tong and each lab member contributed unique insights, sharing their personal experiences and the impacts of their research. Their enthusiasm made the session particularly dynamic, with discussions ranging from the motivation behind starting research to how to prepare for a successful career.

Following this interactive discussion, the students embarked on a tour of Prof. Tong’s lab, guided by her team. The team prepared experiments that allowed students to have hands-on experience with advanced research apparatus. The students observed tumour cells under the microscope and witnessed demonstrations of cell culture techniques by the lab members. This meaningful experience not only deepened their understanding of the scientific process but also ignited their passion for research.

The “Meeting with CUHK Professors” program aims to broaden students’ horizons through meaningful communication with CUHK professors, inspiring them to set ambitious life goals, including pursuing tertiary education at CUHK. This enriching experience motivated the students to envision their future paths in science, making it a memorable and impactful event.
