Prof. Anna Blocki’s team develops a lung cancer intravasation-on-a-chip platform, enabling visualization and machine learning assisted automated quantification.

Prof. Anna Blocki and her team established a microphysiological in vitro model of EMT-driven lung cancer intravasation coupled with machine learning-assisted image processing, enabling automated and unbiased quantification of intravasation events. Importantly, the model features a microvasculature with physiological vascular barrier functions, crucial to faithfully model cancer metastasis.

The model presented here opens avenues to study physiologically relevant lung cancer-related pathological processes in high spatio-temporal resolution and to utilize the established platform technology for drug development, high throughput screening and formulation of personalized treatment plans.

The research has been published in Bioactive Materials in June 2025.
