Liang Weicheng, Ph.D. Graduate in Biomedical Sciences

I am honored to have the opportunity to study at the School of Biomedical Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2010, I joined Professor Mary Miu-yee Waye’s laboratory as a Ph.D. candidate. After graduating in 2014, I received my postdoctoral training under the supervision of Professor Jinfang Zhang and Professor Hector Sun-on Chan. Studying at CUHK has given me the excellent opportunity to learn the latest research advances from all over the world. I am also delighted to make friends with many excellent mentors and peers at CUHK. I am very grateful to them for their generous support in my life and studies.

Thanks to my training at the School of Biomedical Sciences, I have published several articles on inflammation and cancer biology. These include the discovery of a previously unknown protein-coding function of circβ-catenin (Genome Biology), the identification of the pro-inflammatory function mediated by the GHRHR/JAK/STAT axis (PNAS), a study of RNA modification and cancer stem cells (Molecular Cancer), and an investigation of the impact of coronavirus on intestinal inflammation (Gut).

Since 2017, I have been working at The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, a comprehensive hospital renowned for clinical diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases. My laboratory primarily focuses on the functional role of epigenetics in liver cancer and fibrosis. I also serve as the Deputy Director at the editorial office of Liver Research. This Journal is the first English journal focusing on liver disease in South China and publishes clinical and basic research on liver diseases. Looking forward, I will continue to work hard and hope that our work will shed light on developing novel therapeutic approaches against liver cancer.
