Dr. Angel T.Y. Wan obtained her Ph.D. degree from the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), CUHK in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Stephen K.W. Tsui. At the initial stage of her Ph.D. study, she performed whole exome sequencing to dissect relevant genetic factors underlying developmental disorders. Afterwards, she pioneered coupling next generation sequencing to third generation sequencing technologies to analyze multi-omics data of several mite species to understand mite allergy.

With her hands-on experience in experiment and bioinformatics analysis by using state-of-the-art technology as gained in SBS, Dr. Wan joined the biomedical start-up company upon graduation, WellMind BioMed Technology Holdings Limited. As the Chief Technology Officer, she is mainly responsible for research and development of products, as well as a wide range of administration duties, which help translate her scientific knowledge into practical applications.

The all-rounded and systematic training that Dr. Wan received in SBS has equipped her with professional knowledge and confidence, in turn enabling her to contribute to the local innovation and technology in areas of public health and global business. Also, her previous experience as the Chairperson of SBS Postgraduate Student Association has sharpened her leadership and communication skills, which are of paramount importance to her career development. In future, Dr. Wan will continue to devote herself to her chosen field of profession, as a part of the booming biotechnology industry in Hong Kong.
