The BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme (BSc Programme) Team participated in or organized various activities between May and August 2018, including:
- Programme Exploration Day for JUPAS Applicants on 15 May 2018: This is an annual event organized by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Around 35 JUPAS applicants who had selected the BSc Programme in their applications were arranged to attend admission talk, laboratory tour and a sharing session given by our undergraduate students of BSc Programme at Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building (LIBSB), followed by a hands-on workshop, an e-Learning courseware introduction session and Dissecting Laboratory’s visit at Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building.
- CUHK Undergraduate Admission Fair on 23 May 2018: Around 200 secondary school students, parents and teachers attended the admission talk and consultation sessions for the BSc Programme organized by OAFA. The participants were enabled to gain a better understanding of our programme features, admission requirements and career prospects.
- Academic Counselling Session for New Full-time Undergraduate Students on 10 August 2018: Newly admitted undergraduate students attended the counselling session arranged by the BSc Programme Team. Course selection, exemption issue and other related information were introduced. Sharing and breakout sessions were also arranged to allow the new students to mingle with our senior students.
- Summer Undergraduate Biomedical Research Attachment (SUBRA) 2018 between May to August 2018: Through this in-house program, our BSc Programme students were given an opportunity to conduct biomedical research in a real and practical environment, hence practicing and acquiring various basic laboratory techniques after their first year study. With the support of 16 SBS principle investigators who served as the research mentors, a total of 19 Year 1 students and 3 Year 2 students participated in this summer research attachment. Aside from attending various research seminars, participating students took up part of a research project and carried out hands-on experiments under the supervision of their mentors. To complete the attachment, students were invited to conduct poster presentation on their selected research topics on 31 August 2018. Through various promotional activities and outreach to prospective students, it is our hope that more high caliber and promising students will get admitted to our BSc Programme. Also, we hope that taking part in different activities will maximize our students’ exposure in the field of biomedical sciences. It is believed that these experiential learning experiences will enable them to recognize their strength and potential which are crucial not only for their academic and future career development but also their personal growth.
