Participation in the 6th Cross-strait Symposium on Biomedical Sciences cum Postgraduate Research Day 2018 organized by the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) was invited again by the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), to participate in the 6th Cross-strait Symposium on Biomedical Sciences cum Postgraduate Research Day 2018, which was hosted by the Key Laboratory of Animal Models and Human Disease Mechanisms (AMHD). Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS, led a SBS delegation comprising of Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Associate Director (Graduate Education), Prof. Nelson L.S. Tang and Prof. Zhao Hui, Associate Directors of KIZ-CUHK Joint Laboratory of Bioresources and Molecular Research in Common Diseases, Prof. Vincent C.K. Cheung and six graduate students to take part in the symposium from 6 to 9 August 2018. The Peking University and National Tsing Hua University also sent delegations to participate in the event.

In the event, Prof. Woody Chan delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the School. Prof. Vincent Cheng presented a keynote talk titled “Achieving flexibility in a modular motor system for learning, development, and recovery from injury”. Two of our graduate students gave oral presentations, while four of them presented posters. Several of our graduate students won awards with the details as listed below:

Aside from the above, the SBS delegation met with Prof. Yao Yonggang Director of KIZ, together with their Principal Investigators, to exchange the latest research directions and progress, and to discuss the potential collaborations between the two institutions.

Our School has indeed developed a close relationship with KIZ since the establishment of the KIZ-CUHK Joint Laboratory of Bioresources and Molecular Research in Common Diseases, with respect to academic research (see past academic exchange activities: July 2010June and August 2012November to early December 2012) and student exchanges (see previous student exchange activities: August 2013November 2015August 2016November 2016August 2017, and November 2017).
