Following the success of the distinguished scholar’s lectures held at the School on 12 April 2016 and 20 April 2016, the School invited Dr. Constantine Stratakis and Prof. Natalia Prevarskaya to visit us between 11 – 13 October 2016 and 21 – 22 December 2016, respectively, with the support from the CUHK Medicine 35th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series.
Dr. Stratakis is the Scientific Director of the Division of Intramural Research (DIR) at the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S.A. He leads his own research program on endocrinology and molecular genetics, and discovered genetic defects leading to adrenal and other tumors. On 11 October 2016, Dr. Stratakis gave a lecture on “Genetics of Adrenal Tumors: the cAMP Signaling Pathway” to all School members.
Prof. Prevarskaya is the full professor of the University of Lille 1, France, and the Director of the Laboratory of Cellular Physiology at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), France. Her research focused on the role played by ionic channels and intracellular calcium in prostate cancer. On 21 December 2016, Prof. Prevarskaya gave a talk on “Calcium and calcium channels in initiation and progression of prostate cancer” to School members.
Both speakers were also invited to share their expertise and research experience with the Principal Investigators and postgraduate students of the School in several individual and group meetings, and were arranged to have guided tours of the School’s Core Laboratories.
