Co-organized by the School of Biomedical Sciences and Hong Kong Bioinformatics Centre of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine 2010 was successfully held between 18 and 21 December 2010 at the Teaching Building at Chak Cheung Street (now named as Cheng Yu Tung Building), The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Opening Ceremony on 19 December 2010 was officiated by Prof. Henry Nai-Ching Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. Prof. Stephen Kwok-Wing Tsui of the School of Biomedical Sciences was the Chair of this conference.
The Conference enabled the exchange of research results and addressed open issues in all aspects of bioinformatics and biomedicine. It also provided a forum for the presentation of work in databases, algorithms, interfaces, visualization, modeling, simulation, ontology and other computational methods, as applied to life science problems, with emphasis on applications in high throughput data-rich areas in biology and biomedical engineering.
More than 350 scientists in the field of bioinformatics and biomedicine from over 23 countries attended the conference. There were five keynote talks delivered by Academician Ya-Ping Zhang of the Kunming Institute of Zoology, China, Dr. Ruth Nussinov of the National Cancer Institute, USA, Prof. Dong Xu from the University of Missouri, USA, Prof. Erik van Nimwegen from the University of Basel, Switzerland and Prof. Kazuyuki Aihara from the University of Tokyo, Japan. The event was further enriched by 12 talks from invited speakers, 11 workshops and 3 tutorials.

Wong Education Foundation, the Seoul National University, the Medical Bioconvergence Research Center of Korea, the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
