School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) Research Day 2023 & Symposium on Cancer Biology & Experimental Therapeutics was successfully conducted on 14 June 2023 in a hybrid format with in-person and online participation. It attracted over 300 participants from the University and other tertiary institutions.
The event was officiated by Prof. Wai-yee Chan, Li Ka Shing Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President of CUHK; and Prof. Andrew M. Chan, Professor and Director of SBS. With the special focus on “Cancer Biology & Experimental Therapeutics”, the programme was divided into three sessions on “Liquid Biopsies for Cancer”, “Innovative Cancer Therapeutics” and “Exposomes, Epigenetics and Emerging Cancer Trends”. Six speakers from CUHK, four external speakers from The University of Hong Kong, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Phase Scientific, and Cell Press, plus three SBS trainees shared their latest research insights in the event.
We were honoured to have three keynote speakers including Prof. Andreas MÖLLER from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, CUHK; Prof. Rihe LIU from Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy; and Prof. Mei-Po KWAN, from the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, CUHK. During their keynote speeches, they highlighted valuable scientific discoveries with the audience.
Throughout this year’s flagship event, experts from different disciplines came together to exchange ideas on how to advance biomedical sciences, resulting in a well-rounded and exciting conversation. The event enabled participants to cross-pollinate ideas and establish new connections. We would like to sincerely thank all participants for their active support, which made this event a great success.
