The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) continued to organize the SBS Summer Research Internship (SRI) programme and Summer Dissection Workshop for medical students at CUHK again this year between June and August. This programme aims to nurture research talents of MBChB-GPS students to unleash their potential as future physician-scientists.
This year, eight Year 1 and seven Year 2 medical students took part in the SRI under the supervision of 10 investigators of our School, participating an 8-week summer research attachment (see the table below). It allows participants to gain hands-on research experience under the supervision of research mentors from SBS during the summer break.
The SPI ends with a closing ceremony on 17 August 2023, where participants shared their research experiences, and talked about how they see the connection between biomedical research and their future. They were awarded a certificate of accomplishment for their satisfactory performance.

Also, the School organized Summer Workshop: Enhancement of Dissection Technique for 29 medical students. In the workshop, each student chose and focused on a body region to practise their dissecting skills. They were required to prepare a 10-minute video to present the anatomical and clinical importance of the specimen selected. Through this workshop, the students got exposed to advanced dissection techniques and learn about presentation of specimens. At the conclusion of the workshop, participating students with the best performance were selected for the “Mr Shiu Hing Tong Prizes For the Best Student Prosectors” (see the awardees in 2023 below):
Award | Awardee |
First Prize | Mr. Choi Wang-ngai Arthur Mr. Ko Man-him |
First Runner-up | Mr. Cheung Ka-lok Miss Tsang Cho-man |
Second Runner-up | Mr. Mak Yat-shun Mr. Siu Cheuk-hang Mr. Yeung Chi-kit |
