Officiated by Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS, the “SBS Research Day 2015” in conjunction with the “Cardio-Metabolic Biology Symposium 2015” was successfully held on 4 and 5 June 2015. The event was well attended by more than 240 participants, including our School members, associate members from clinical departments, CUHK colleagues as well as guests from the University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Science Park.
In order to promote scientific interactions and collaborative relationship outside Hong Kong, we were honored to have Prof. Chris Yun-fai Lau from the University of California, San Francisco, U.S.A., and Prof. Yan Chen from the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences (SIBS), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), as Plenary Speakers in the Research Day and the Symposium, respectively.
Members and Associate Members of the three Thematic Research Programs (TRPs), “Neuro-degeneration, -development and Repair”, “Stem Cell and Regeneration” and “Vascular and Metabolic Biology” gave oral presentations during the event and members of the other two TRPs “Cancer and Inflammation” and “Reproduction, Development and Endocrinology” shared their research work through poster presentations.
In addition, a 6-member delegation from SIBS, CAS also joined the event. This is the first visit for the SIBS members to our School. We hope that by taking part in the event, future research collaborations could be developed between the two institutions.
This two-day event has provided an opportunity for all participants, including professors, postgraduate students and research staff of different local or overseas institutes, to strengthen their academic linkage and also exchange research ideas. We sincerely thank all the participants from different universities and also the sponsoring companies for their enthusiastic supports to make this event a success.
