SBS Summer Research Internship & Dissection Workshop 2024 for Medical Students
14 Aug 2024
Details:

The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) continued to organize the SBS Summer Research Internship (SRI) programme and Summer Dissection Workshop for medical students at CUHK again this year between June and August. This programme aims to nurture research talents of MBChB-GPS students to unleash their potential as future physician-scientists.

This year, two Year 1 and eight Year 2 medical students took part in the SRI under the supervision of seven investigators of our School, participating an 8-week summer research attachment (see the table below). It allows participants to gain hands-on research experience under the supervision of research mentors from SBS during the summer break.

The SPI ends with a closing ceremony on 14 August 2024, where participants shared their research experiences, and talked about how they see the connection between biomedical research and their future. They were awarded a certificate of accomplishment for their satisfactory performance.

Also, the School organized the annual Summer Workshop: Enhancement of Dissection Technique for 33 medical students. In the workshop, each student could choose a body region to focus on and dissect. Each participating student was required to prepare a 10-minute video to present the anatomical and clinical importance of the specimen they worked on. Through this workshop, the students got exposed to advanced dissection techniques and learn about presentation of specimens. At the conclusion of the workshop, participating students with the best performance were selected for the Mr Shiu Hing Tong Prizes For the Best Student Prosectors”
