With the goal of inspiring prospective students to pursue PhD studies at the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), while fostering new connections and exploring future research opportunities, the 2026–27 PhD Student Recruitment Summer Workshop took place from 2 to 5 July 2025. A total of 46 candidates were selected from renowned institutions to join the Workshop.
The workshop featured a dynamic programme designed to immerse participants in the vibrant research environment at the SBS. Activities included guided tours of the Chinese University library, Science Park, and core laboratories; meetings with potential supervisors; and informative sessions led by theme chiefs introducing various SBS research areas. Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Associate Director (Graduate Education ), provided an overview of the PhD programme, while lab representatives presented their work during engaging poster sessions. These experiences not only equipped participants with valuable insights into the application process and the research interests of Principal Investigators, but also enabled meaningful discussions with professors and research students—sparking ideas and potential collaborations. During the closing session, attendees expressed heartfelt gratitude to all tutors and faculty members for their generous support and thoughtful guidance. They were especially impressed by the state-of-the-art core facilities and deeply appreciated the warm, collegial atmosphere that prevailed throughout the workshop.
The event was made possible through the concerted efforts of the Graduate Education team, especially Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Associate Director (Graduate Education) , Prof. Zhao Hui, Assistant Director (Graduate Education) and Ms Fion Fong.
